July 24, 2013 - Lee Behel, EAA Lifetime 278620, of Saratoga, California, has participated in the AirVenture Cup Race many times, but never in his George Pereira-designed GP-5. In fact, the GP-5 has never been to Oshkosh, so this year will be a first.

Making this year even more special, Lee's son, Jay, will pilot the GP-4 in the AirVenture Cup race, which runs this Sunday. Both George Pereira-designed airplanes - the 2003 Grand Champion GP-4 and the GP-5 - will appear in Oshkosh for the first time Friday afternoon.

Behel had tried to arrange for George, 92, to be here too, but that wasn't possible due to health reasons. George, who designed the sleek GP-4 and GP-5 models, also designed the single-place Osprey amphibian, or Pereira Osprey 2 - which holds the distinction of being the only homebuilt aircraft ever to receive a military "X" plane designation - the U.S. Navy's X-28 Sea Skimmer in 1970.

Look for the George's creations on the flightline with the AirVenture Cup racers after they arrive on Sunday, July 28.

FUTURE AIRVENTURE DATES: 2014: July 28-Aug. 3; 2015: July 20-26; 2016: July 25-31; 2017: July 24-30
