July 17, 2013 - GreenWing International, a sub-company of electric aircraft manufacturer Yuneec International, plans to announce production details on the electric-powered eSpyder Thursday during AirVenture. The company will unveil a production timeline, pricing, and the number of eSpyders it plans to produce.
GreenWing received German DULV powered paraglider certification in February on the eSpyder electric aircraft, meaning it can be legally distributed. The company reports that DULV certification is similar to ASTM consensus standards, and expects the FAA to follow suit with certification, allowing the eSpyder to be sold as a light-sport aircraft.
The company said the eSpyder offers an "extremely smooth and quiet" ride behind its 51-decibel power system, and test flights have lasted for more than an hour.
