EAA AirVenture Oshkosh RSS Feed Lark of Duluth Replica Receives Airworthiness Certificate
Cleared for flight: The Lark of Duluth received its airworthiness certificate Thursday from the FAA. This airplane will be displayed in front of the Vintage Red Barn at AirVenture Oshkosh all week.

June 28, 2013 - On the 100th anniversary of the original's first flight, the Benoist (pronounced BEN-wah) Type XIV replica Lark of Duluth flying boat was certified airworthy by the FAA in Duluth, Minnesota, clearing the way for its participation at Duluth's Lark O' the Lake Festival on July 12-14, 2013 and at EAA's AirVenture Oshkosh 2013.

"January 1, 2014, marks the 100-year anniversary of commercial aviation," said Sandra Ettestad, president of the institute's Board of Trustees. "It is fitting that exactly one hundred years to the day since the world's first commercial airplane flew for the first time in Duluth, the replica receives its airworthiness certificate."

The effort to build the Lark is more than five years in the making, led by local aviation craftsman, Mark Marino, with volunteer labor contributions from fellow Institute trustees and local EAA members. (Read more about the project.)

See the Lark on display in front of the Vintage Barn throughout the entire week at AirVenture.

FUTURE AIRVENTURE DATES: 2014: July 28-Aug. 3; 2015: July 20-26; 2016: July 25-31; 2017: July 24-30
