June 25, 2013 - This year's entry deadline for the July 28 AirVenture Cup Race is July 1, so pilots who wish to take part are urged to register today.
In the past, registration has been open until a week before the race, but because of an expected increased number of participants, EAA needs a bit longer to process each racer's insurance and other documentation.
"We want to make sure our participants know about the deadline change this year and to get their applications in ASAP," said Eric Whyte, AirVenture Cup Race chairman. "The last thing we want is to turn people away."
Along with several experimental amateur-built race classes, the race is open to several new classes of aircraft this year, including production-built, vintage, and warbirds. Race officials believe this will increase the number of participants even more and expect between 50 and 100 aviators to participate.
