SportAir Workshops to Hold First-Ever Courses at AirVenture
Two Sheet Metal Basics sessions scheduled
EAA's Mark Forss looks over workshop attendee Randall Rettler's work at a recent SportAir Workshop.
EAA's acclaimed SportAir Workshops will for the first time ever offer a pair of sessions during the week of AirVenture Oshkosh. The popular Sheet Metal Basics course will be held Tuesday-Wednesday, July 24-25, and Thursday-Friday, July 26-27, limited to 16 students each. Builders will receive professional, expert instruction spread over two eight-hour days, with plenty of hands-on experience. EAA SportAir Workshops' sponsor is Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Company.
"We've often been asked by AirVenture attendees, 'Why don't you have SportAir Workshops during Oshkosh?'" explained EAA's SportAir coordinator, Mark Forss. "This year we decided to offer two sheet metal sessions - one of our most popular workshops - and we expect them to fill up fast.
"Having full SportAir Workshops at AirVenture is exciting because it provides attendees with a great opportunity to take in two great events at the same time, and what better place is there to learn how to build your own airplane?"
EAA's Sheet Metal Basics course gives attendees a solid understanding of this popular aircraft construction method, teaching riveting, drilling, deburring, using Clecos, countersinking, and other skills that simulate what builders will encounter in a sheet metal aircraft construction project. All tools and materials are provided, and students learn on actual aircraft components such as an airfoil section.
The workshops will run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days in the EAA AirVenture Museum and Aviation Center's Leadership Classroom/Cessna Workshop. Registration is now open, so don't delay!
