Superb early-summer weather provided perfect conditions and road crews took advantage of them, completing the reconstruction of Poberezny Road near the EAA campgrounds well ahead of schedule.

The roadway now provides a smooth entrance to EAA's facilities, including Camp Scholler, the drive-in campground that opens this Friday, June 22 - the traditional 31 days prior to AirVenture's opening day on July 23. The new stretch of road runs north from Waupun Road, near the Highway 41/26 interchange, to Waukau Avenue, just south of the EAA Aviation Center.

The project was scheduled to be completed no later than July 11, well ahead of AirVenture but inconvenient for early campground arrivals and volunteers. Dry weather allowed crews to maintain an up-tempo pace, however, and the barricades were removed on Tuesday morning, little more than a month after starting the 2-mile project.

The reconstruction was a cooperative project between EAA and three government entities: the state of Wisconsin, city of Oshkosh, and town of Nekimi. All four groups contributed funding to the project, which became necessary because of the road's substantial deterioration in recent years that created traffic hazards.

Those arriving at Camp Scholler are encouraged to use the 41/26 interchange south of the AirVenture grounds, then travel north on Poberezny Road to the campground registration entrance.

FUTURE AIRVENTURE DATES: 2014: July 28-Aug. 3; 2015: July 20-26; 2016: July 25-31; 2017: July 24-30
