Passions for music and flying will unite at AirVenture 2011 as the Flying Musicians Association (FMA) hosts nightly "FMA AirVenture MusicJams" Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29. The organization invites flying musicians and music lovers to converge on Forum Building No. 9 in the Honda Forums Plaza every night from 7-10 p.m.
You'll hear original music by featured artists, and get a chance to join members in jamming. Musicians and music lovers are invited to enjoy and share - watch, listen, or sign up to play a few tunes for the audience. Singers can sign up for open mic - maybe you'll find that backup band you always wanted!
"You never know who will show up and strike up a tune," remarked John Zapp, who along with Aileen Hummel founded the FMA in 2009. Already planning to participate are Zapp, RAVI, Elgin Wells (Starjammer), and others. FMA already claims nearly 170 members, and more are invited to join, Zapp said.
Those wishing to perform during the week should send an e-mail to Mike Golas, performer/venue coordinator.
Zapp describes FMA as "pilot musicians sharing their passion while encouraging and educating youth in the science and art of aeronautics and music." FMA's goals are to gather people with the same passions to further enjoy, promote, and grow in both aviation and music.
Don't leave your musical instrument home this year (unless it's a pipe organ)! For more information or to join, visit the FMA website.
