There
is so much to see and do at AirVenture Oshkosh that it can sometimes be
a challenge to find what you're looking for, especially for first
timers. Now EAA Locator, a free app for the Apple iPhone, can show you
where you want to go on the vast AirVenture convention grounds.
Developed by Mica Limited, a
software development company based in Minneapolis, EAA Locator provides
a list of familiar preset locations, like Aces Café, Ultralight HQ, the
four large exhibit hangars, the Warbirds area, and many others. Using
the iPhone's GPS capabilities, users can pinpoint custom locations, such
as where you parked your car or aircraft, your campsite location, or
anywhere else you designate.
Click on one of the preset
locations, press the "Take Me There" button, and the app will
draw a line from where you are to where you want to go.
Josh Olson, Mica president,
and his partner Dan Pichelman are both pilots and EAA members. They
approached EAA earlier this year about working on an AirVenture-based
app and came up with the idea for EAA Locator.
"The first thing that
came to mind is there is so much to see at AirVenture - how do I get it
all done?" Olson said. Working with EAA, Mica obtained the official
AirVenture grounds map and other information and created the app. They
also added an EAA Radio feed, just one of the added features they plan
to add over time.
"Our goal is to
continue to add value and have EAA Locator become the premier EAA
app," Olson said. "With the EAA Radio feed, the user can stay
connected to EAA year-round. We also felt it would be great for users to
keep up with EAA Radio updates while walking around.
Mica
Limited has plans to add an EAA Chapters tab, showing users where
their closest EAA chapter is, with contact details and other features to
help keep EAA members connected throughout the year.
EAA Locator runs on the
iPhone iOS4 operating system only. Click
