July 27, 2009 - Oshkosh, Wisconsin - NX12920 is a Replica of the Chester Special “Jeep” racer. Arthur Chester built the original in 1932 and modified it in the 1930s. The original restored airplane is in EAA’s AirVenture Museum. Lon Dienst of Poplar Grove, IL, built the replica with the help of his brother Steve of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and son Eric of DeKalb IL. The original airplane was registered as NR12930; Eric was able to register the replica as NX12920. The airplane was finished days before bringing it to AirVenture so it has not yet flown. Lon said this was his first scratch-build project. More info on the original Chester Special is at http://www.airventuremuseum.org/.
