Dreams of aviation will come true at EAA
AirVenture Oshkosh 2009 when it hosts five Make-A-Wish children and their
families on Saturday, August 1. The day begins with the families flying in
EAA's Bell 47 helicopter at Pioneer Airport, followed by a personal tour
of Virgin Galactic's WhiteKnightTwo. All children involved, plus their
siblings, will then be given an opportunity to earn their EAA Young Eagle
wings after flying in EAA's 1929 Ford Tri-Motor. The day will continue
with flying opportunities in the Wright brothers and NOAA Hurricane
simulators and ultralights, exploring the EAA museum and the KidVenture
zone, personal tours of the airport air traffic control tower, and meeting
air show performers and EAA President Tom Poberezny.
"The annual Make-A-Wish event at
Oshkosh is a prime example of the behind-the-scenes activities that make
AirVenture so special. As always, these programs wouldn't be possible
without the collaboration of organizations and the hardworking
volunteers," Poberezny said.
The opportunities for the Make-A-Wish
AirVenture day are made possible through EAA's volunteer tram drivers and
the association with agencies from the International Federal Partnership (IFP).
AirVenture 2009 marks the 16th year of Make-A-Wish's participation at
AirVenture.
