Lancair
International Inc. announced Monday that they have teamed up with
Lycoming to create a new piston powerplant for the Evolution.
After
many requests from customers, the companies decided to partner to
offer the new aircraft. "Our customers requested a non-turbine
Evolution," Neil Longwill said. "The next available
Evolution will be in April."
The
Evolution hosts a maximum cruise speed of 270 knots true airspeed at
28,000 feet, and it provides a new level of safety with its slow
pattern and landing speeds. Its single lever control reduces pilot
workload and is expected to use 22 gallons of 100LL per hour with a
payload of 1,080 pounds.
AirVenture attendees
can view the Evolution at the North Aircraft Display area, located
just south of the Warbirds area.
