One of the airplanes that amped up the "wow" factor at EAA AirVenture last summer, Cirrus Design's single-engine personal "The Jet," was said to be appearing at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 in a news report earlier this week, but company officials can't confirm that. "It has not been determined at this time exactly what the schedule is," said Kate Dougherty, public relations director. "We obviously have you guys (EAA) in mind as we're thinking about what we're going to be doing with the (Jet's) schedule, but nothing has been finalized. We're still in a research and development process, so we're not in a big hurry to get a plane in the air. We want to do this thing right from the beginning."

Cirrus says more than 400 customers have made $100,000 deposits for the airplane, which, according to comments made last year, targets 300 knots at 25,000 feet msl; room for up to seven people; and a price between $1 million and $1.2 million.

The company plans to build The Jet in a recently acquired maintenance hangar at the Duluth International Airport formerly owned by Northwest Airlines.

FUTURE AIRVENTURE DATES: 2014: July 28-Aug. 3; 2015: July 20-26; 2016: July 25-31; 2017: July 24-30
