Five general aviation aircraft departed Quebec City's Jean Lesage International Airport last Thursday on the first-ever escorted adventure around the world. The 71-day, 24,000 nautical mile journey across five continents will end at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008.
"This is a dream come true," said Thierry Pouille, president of Air Journey, the company that made arrangements for the group flight. "Flying completely around the world has been a lifelong dream for many pilots, myself included, and now it's finally happening!"
The Florida-based company announced the trip last year and it immediately sold out, Pouille said. Aircraft included in the flight are a TBM 700; a Cessna Mustang VLJ; a PC-12; a Beechcraft Duke refitted with PT6 propjet engines, and a similarly modified Cessna Conquest 441 with the Garrett engines.
After stops in Reykjavik, Iceland and Bergen, Norway, the course continues across Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa, then on through India and Asia before finally crossing through Russia and on toward Alaska.
