Aviation
enthusiasts around the world now have a new, exciting way to get
AirVenture news and information on the EAA
AirVenture website. A new video
player, hosted by Brightcove and
supported by partner organizations Microsoft and Rotorway, currently
features exclusive AirVenture 2007 previews along with highlights from
last year’s event. During EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007, July 23-29, new
content will appear daily featuring AirVenture news updates and
highlights, historical flashbacks, interviews, human-interest stories,
forums and presentations, air show performances, and more!
After AirVenture, EAA will begin to
integrate the Brightcove player into all its websites, featuring new
videos as well as content from the massive multimedia treasure trove
created over the organization’s 54-year history.
“This is more than the simple addition of
a new feature; this is an exciting new dimension in how EAA shares
valuable knowledge and information among our community of aviation
enthusiasts,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA president and AirVenture chairman.
“Our members and the public are seeking richer and more immediate
multimedia content delivered via the Internet.”
While nothing can beat experiencing EAA
AirVenture Oshkosh in person, the new Brightcove video player will provide
millions of people throughout the world with unprecedented access to many
of the highlights occurring daily at The World’s Greatest Aviation
Celebration.
“We get a million visitors to the
AirVenture website during the month of July, which gives you some
indication of the interest in the event,” said Adam Smith, EAA vice
president - outreach. “We had extremely positive feedback from
throughout the world to the live EAA Radio streams during last year’s
convention. And for the past couple of years we’ve been putting a single
daily AirVenture video clip online. This was the most visited part of the
website last year.
“That caused us to realize that there are
a lot of people all around the world who are interested in this event but
for whatever reason cannot be here. They want to stay in touch, because it’s
important to them.”
Further influenced by the explosion of
online video over the past couple of years at YouTube and similar
websites, EAA committed earlier this year to adopt the latest streaming
technologies from Brightcove and bring even more of Oshkosh to the world.
An online AirVenture archive will allow people to view the videos
throughout the year and perhaps catch something they missed (or relive
something they experienced).
Post your own clips:
AirVenture attendees will also have an opportunity to upload their own
personal videos to AirVenture.org, Smith said.
“EAA is different from other
organizations in that we have a very active membership and a community of
people who come to Oshkosh every year,” he explained. “The wide,
expansive things that people do and the experiences they have when here is
amazing, so the ability to have people load their own videos to the
AirVenture website and actually be part of how we present their
event is really compelling. It will help infuse the whole thing with the
personal voice of EAAers.”
Smith also revealed that a competition
would take place at this year’s AirVenture to determine the best
user-submitted video. (Details will follow soon, so stay tuned.) If you’re
coming to Oshkosh this year, don’t forget to bring your camcorder!
Other features:
The Brightcove player has a built-in syndication component, allowing any
EAA member or chapter to host the video player on their own website, blog,
or other web-based medium. Other enhanced features include an RSS feed;
sharing content with friends via e-mail; and imbedding individual clips
into blogs and websites.
Post-convention:
This week’s launch of the Brightcove player represents just the first
step forward. EAA will continually integrate this technology on all of its
websites, providing EAA members with even more information about what’s
going at EAA and in the aviation world.
The Brightcove video player provides an
outlet for not just the work done in the future, but the work that was
done in the past. Over time EAA will share the thousands of hours of
archived productions and films made over the history of the organization.
It starts today! All you need is a
broadband Internet connection and the Macromedia Flash player installed on
your computer. Log on and tune in at www.airventure.org!
