A
sure sign of just how close we are to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007, EAA's
Camp Scholler officially opens at 8 a.m. Friday morning, June 22. In the
31 days leading up to the start of The World's Greatest Aviation
Celebration, tens of thousands of people will create an "Aviation
City," whose residents enjoy the unique camaraderie at EAA's drive-in
campground. Early camper registration takes place off the Forest Home
Avenue entrance, just south of the main gate.
Camp Scholler, along with the fly-in
camping areas for aircraft, creates an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
EAA members and their guests from around the world gather to form a
community who share a passion for flying. Many visitors have set up camp
on the EAA grounds each year for more than two decades, developing
lifelong friendships and priceless memories.
Who comes a month early? A variety of
people, including volunteers who will be helping prepare the grounds, and
others who have a traditional location that they establish each year.
These people also enjoy the excitement of watching "The World's
Greatest Aviation Celebration" build toward Opening Day.
"While
many EAA AirVenture participants stay in hotels throughout the region, as
well as college dormitories and private housing, others believe that
camping at EAA AirVenture is the best way to get the real flavor of the
event," said EAA President Tom Poberezny. "After a busy day on
the flight line at Oshkosh, those who camp on-site find it easy to make
friends as they share memories around a campfire or cookout. Their
experiences become even more memorable as they take part in this
aviation-minded community that springs up at Oshkosh."
Camping is also an easy and inexpensive way
to enjoy EAA AirVenture, whether you bring a tent, pull-along camper, or
motor home. Rates are only $19 per day for each camp space, and open to
any EAA member and their guests. Sites are available on a first-come,
first-served basis, and Camp Scholler always has plenty of room to welcome
all AirVenture participants. For complete camping details, visit the EAA
AirVenture website.
