Kenseth, who grew up in Cambridge, Wisconsin, will be at the hangar from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with team owner Jack Roush.

  • Children have their own activity hangar at AirVenture
Children ages 3-7 have their own place to "hang" out at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006. The Children’s Activity Hangar is a shady spot for pre-schoolers through younger primary ages to participate in age-appropriate aviation activities. They can ride a wooden red biplane, make Play-Doh airplanes, check out stories in many airplane books, or do some "hangar flying" at the Jay-Jay the Pet Plane table or from the runway at the Airplane Lego Table. Coloring, cartoons, puzzles, and daily airplane quizzes are other activities. Read more

  • EAA & FAA partner to create amateur-built DARs
About five years ago, EAA and the FAA got together to discuss a problem: a shortage of DARs—designated airworthiness representatives—available and willing to certificate amateur-built aircraft. DARs work under the direction of FAA FSDOs (Flight Standards District Offices) or MIDOs (Manufacturing Inspection District Offices). DARs work with aircraft manufacturers (including amateur builders) to ensure aircraft meet flight safety standards and to facilitate the certification process. When a new aircraft is ready to fly, it is the DAR who signs off the aircraft, certificating it for flight in its particular category. Read more

"I go to a lot of air shows and fly a lot of airplanes, and a lot of people don’t have that privilege," says Johnson, a leading reviewer of light-sport airplanes and ultralights. "But I couldn’t do that without a legion of people who are busy developing new planes." Read more

  • Women Soar helps girls’ career options take flight
In 1971, a Connecticut judge said that athletic competitions build character for boys. But you don’t need that character in girls. That type of thinking is the reason behind Women Soar, a two-day program meant to get teenage girls interested in aviation and related occupations. Read more

  • TCM celebrates 100th anniversary at AirVenture
It’s been 100 years since Continental Motors—now Teledyne Continental Motors, or TCM—built its first engine. That powerplant was an automobile engine built for 1905-1906-era autos. By 1916, the company had manufactured more than 150,000 engines but didn’t break into the aviation market until 1927. That engine, a nine-cylinder radial that came to be known as the A-70, powered new aircraft of the time. Read more

  • Brazil to AirVenture, three hours at a time
Luiz Carlos Novi considered adding extra fuel capacity to his RV-9 before heading out with it on a trek from near Sao Paulo, Brazil, to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006. But test flights of the airframe and engine combination showed it boasted endurance of well more than four hours, and according to his friend and companion for the trip, Paulo Rivetti, that was more than enough to make the trip safely. • Look Who’s Listening…
Every year, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh draws more aviation enthusiasts than any other event in the world. They come here to look, to learn, to share, and to celebrate the joys and wonders of aviation. For many "aeroheads" and "wing nuts," pilots and non-pilots, coming to Oshkosh is a pilgrimage. For others, it is an annual reunion of the world’s largest aviation family. Read more

  • At NASA exhibit, classic spacecraft shape is still out of this world
The focal point at the entrance to NASA’s exhibit building at EAA AirVenture is a floor-to-ceiling shape representing what the next generation human-rated spacecraft to circle the moon could look like. If its symmetrical gumdrop silhouette looks familiar, that’s no accident. Read more

  • Forum to discuss GA user fees
A forum to discuss the issue of general aviation (GA) user fees will be held at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on Tuesday, July 25, 11:30 a.m., in Pavilion 6.
