The whole world’s
listening
Can’t make it to the
center of the aviation universe this week? No worries, we’ll bring it
to you on EAA Radio’s live Internet streaming audio on www.airventure.org.
And the world is tuning
in, evidenced by the deluge of messages we’re receiving from distant
places. Check the website to read more, but here
are just a few messages we’ve received so far:
We are listening to
AirVenture radio from Hardenberg, Netherlands; unfortunately we can’t
make it this year to Oshkosh but the Internet radio service makes us
able to be there a little bit and enjoy this fabulous event. We’ll be
back next year. Kind regards to all of you—H. Eshuis
I’m listening from
Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I am in e-mail contact with a friend of mine
from Nelson Bay, Australia, who is listening along with me. Next year we
will both be at Oshkosh 2007. Just finishing my GlaStar and will fly in
for the first time. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all your
efforts. Very much appreciated.—Ian
My grandson and I are
listening from Mountain View, Arkansas. First time I have missed in nine
years, but will be there next year with Matthew (the grandson). He will
be six years old and has gone wild over airplanes. He flies with me and
a good friend and with the aid of the turn and bank he can make very
good turns and knows how to keep the wings level.—C. Hinkle
We are listening to EAA
Radio on a 38-foot sailboat located in Chaguramus Bay, Trinidad, through
a local WiFi connection. Originally from Minnesota and have traveled to
Oshkosh every year for the last 15 or so. Sorry we can’t be there
again this year but it’s great to feel a little closer to all of you.
Hope to be back to enjoy Oshkosh again in a few years. Cheers from
Trinidad in the southern Caribbean!—R. Christensen
Listening from Clanton,
Alabama, Gragg Wade Field, 02A. My grandfather was Charles Wade, whom
the Wade part of the field is named for. I am a fourth generation pilot.
I am listening at work and wishing I was there!

I’m in Ames, Iowa,
listening online. My dad and I have been attending together since I was
10 (I’m now 31). My firstborn child is due any second now, so
unfortunately we’ll have to sit out Oshkosh this year, but next year
we’ll be there. Thanks for webcasting— it’s the second best thing
to being there!—R. Kibbe
To all at Oshkosh 2006—I
was lucky enough to go to Oshkosh 2005 with my brother who lives in the
U.S. It was a great time and I was lucky enough to fly in a B-17. Man,
what an experience. Can’t wait to come back again!— Cheers from Gary
in Australia
I’m listening from
London. Been to Oshkosh for the last four years and really unhappy about
not being there this year. At least we have the radio, videos, and
photos to keep up with events. Have a great show.—I. Hall
I certainly wish I could
attend this year’s promising good times, bringing my wife, Nancy, and
the "other" woman Miss Libby, a 1955 Piper PA-22-150,
who happens to be the newest addition to our family. However, we are
still learning Libby’s quirks, and the skill of landing on
whatever-color dot needs to be honed. However, the AirVenture event and
the always-friendly residents of Oshkosh hold a special place in our
hearts. I spent many a quality hour with my dearly missed Pop, both on
the flightline and in Camp Scholler. I got down on one knee and asked my
lovely little wife to marry me at the ‘97 air show in the
"Classic Cafe" and the folks that we stayed with gave us a
celebratory bottle of champagne, along with hugs and heartfelt good
wishes all around. The event itself is a wonder to behold, and the
residents even more so.

Listening from Goshen,
Indiana. Love the show; it’s the next BEST thing to being there!
Arriving Thursday night, my wife and our two grandsons will be at the
show for their first experience of the Mecca of Aviation. Talked with
the boys how Oshkosh is one of the special places that you can see where
dreams come from and they can be really touched. Member since 2003. See
ya soon!

My family and I had a planned relocation
set for this summer to the Oshkosh area that’s been delayed until fall
and one of my first stops after the relocation was to be AirVenture. My
first one and I couldn’t wait! So instead, I’ll listen to EAA Radio
and through the word pictures I’ll be able to imagine the sights and
activities and hear the sounds of AirVenture! Humm, baby, it’s gonna
be fun!
