Don’t miss this week’s
spectacular Warbirds air shows
From primary and advanced
trainers to lumbering, heavy Allied bombers from World War II, powerful
piston fighters and jets, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh features the widest
variety of ex-military airplanes in the world. They’ll all be here
this week--more than 300 of ’em--featured in several special events,
including expanded, fiery air show performances on Friday and Saturday
afternoons.
But there’s much more
than those two spectacular, pyro-laced air show performances where the
warbirds are concerned. Formation groups are scheduled to arrive in the
afternoon on opening day Monday, while Tuesday features a one-hour
warbird air show starting at 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday afternoon, watch the
flightline for a great photo opportunity as up to 20 P-51 Mustangs
perform a group engine run-up, then take off to take part in the
scheduled 30-minute air show also featuring the likes of the P-40 and
Corsair fighter aircraft.
Friday’s hour-long
warbird spectacular begins at approximately 4:45. A seemingly endless
stream of formation groups will include T-6s, T-28s, T-34s, Yaks &
CJs, and classic jets. A special treat for warbird buffs during Friday’s
performance will be a rare heavy bomber group formation, including the
Lancaster, B-24, B-25s, and B-17s. This show, along with Saturday’s
hour-long performance that begins at 3:30 p.m., includes dazzling,
heart-thumping pyrotechnics from Rich’s Incredible Pyro.
Sunday includes a scheduled 30-minute
warbird air show, with the starting time to be determined. When they’re
not flying, they’re just as magnificent, and more accessible, parked
in the EAA Warbirds of America area. Make sure you take the time to walk
among the aircraft that preserved liberty for the free world.
