Flight Team to makes special EAA AirVenture fly-bys on July 28
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels
flight demonstration squadron, one of the world’s greatest aviation
teams, will be making special fly-bys at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006 on
Friday, July 28. The 54th annual EAA fly-in convention, The World’s
Greatest Aviation Celebration, will be held July 24-30 at Wittman

Meet Blue Angels Pilot,
See Aircraft at AeroShell Square
Aviation enthusiasts
can learn more about the pilots and aircraft that are part of one of
the world’s finest aerobatic teams, as a U.S. Navy Blue Angels pilot
visit EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006. Lt. Kevin "Kojak" Davis
and the No. 7 Blue Angels F/A-18 "Hornet" two-place aircraft
will arrive at Oshkosh today and depart on Wednesday, July 26. Read

Beach Boys ready to rock
at AirVenture Monday evening
The Beach Boys have been nearly everywhere since brothers Brian, Carl,
and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine got
together and invented what became known as "The California
Sound" in the early 1960s. One thing they haven’t done, though,
is be part of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh—The World’s Greatest Aviation

- NASA to display shuttle
engine, next generation vehicle mock-up at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
NASA knows that
the way to space and back includes sprints through the atmosphere.
This year’s NASA exhibit at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh features a real
space shuttle rocket engine and, for the first time, a full-size,
mock-up silhouette of what the next generation astronauts may take to
the moon, Mars, and beyond. Check out these and other features at NASA’s
exhibit building north of the control tower, just east of the Honda

‘Carnauba’ S-38
returns to AirVenture
One of the most popular replicas of a storied vintage aircraft to ever
appear at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh returns this year. SC Johnson Co.’s
Carnauba Sikorsky S-38 is an exact replica of the Sikorsky S-38 that
H.F. Johnson Jr., third-generation Johnson family leader, piloted in
1935 to Fortaleza, Brazil, to discover new supplies of carnauba palms.
What the Brazilians call "The Tree of Life" was the source
of the world’s hardest natural wax used by the company for its floor

Oshkosh presentation planned
The General Aviation
Awards Committee announced selections for the 43rd annual National GA
Awards, whose recipients will be honored by FAA Administrator Marion
Blakey during a Wednesday, July 27, ceremony at AirVenture Oshkosh 2006.
The recipients are: Rich Stowell, 2006 Certificated Flight Instructor
(CFI) of the Year; Gene Hudson, Aviation Safety Counselor (ASC) of the
Year; Joe Hawkins, Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) of the Year;
and Terry Markovich, Avionics Technician of the Year. Read

Safety first in
Warbirds area on air show days
On days the Warbirds of America perform at EAA AirVenture this week (all
days except Thursday), the Warbirds area is required to close certain
sections of the aircraft parking area just before, during, and after the
performances. With dozens of aircraft starting up and taxiing through
"public access" areas (warbirds aircraft parking), it creates
a huge safety concern. Read more
HondaJet to
hold flight demonstration, technical briefing on Tuesday
The innovative HondaJet will expand its presence at
this year’s EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, The World’s Greatest Aviation
Celebration, with a detailed technical briefing and a demonstration
flight. HondaJet Project Leader Michimasa Fujino will conduct the
technical briefing to share the most recent status of the HondaJet
program on Tuesday, July 25, at 1 p.m. followed by the demonstration
flight the same day at 2:30 p.m. Read more
KidVenture 2006 offers
riveting experience
More activities will be available for KidVenture participants this
year than ever before. Leading the way are a hands-on riveting project
and actual flight instruction received from a Certificated Flight
Instructor. A wide variety of other activities create numerous
opportunities to learn about the basics of flight. Read

NAFI
Provides Kids’ First Flight Instruction
Kids can also move beyond
video games and into actual flight-simulator training at KidVenture by
receiving flight training from members of the National Association of
Flight Instructors (NAFI). They will provide the actual flight
instruction on an On Top Basic Aviation Training Device (ATD) simulator
provided by Aviation Supplies & Academics (ASA). Read

Get ‘One Six Right’
through EAA and help Young Eagles
Special free
screenings July 28 at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
One Six Right,
a full-length documentary highlighting the wonder and fascination with
flight, will be available throughout the week at EAA AirVenture. For the
entire month of July, $5 of each DVD sold will be donated to the EAA

See outdoor movies at
night on a 5-story-high screen
Remember the days of the
old 44 Outdoor Theater, right outside Wittman Field? Those days live
again this year and right in Camp Scholler as Ford Motor Company and
Eclipse Aviation present the EAA Fly-In Theater. Classic aviation movies
will be projected onto a 5-story high inflatable screen tonight through
Saturday evening during EAA AirVenture. Programs begin at 8:30 and the

One of the general aviation
community’s most talked-about issues—pilot medical certification—will
again be a prime topic during forum sessions at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
The pilot community will have several opportunities to learn more about
EAA’s efforts to streamline medical certification and FAA progress on

Exciting
pre-AirVenture program at Theater in the Woods
An Evening with Champions,
EAA AirVenture’s unofficial kickoff program, marks its 21st year at
Theater in the Woods on Sunday evening. The program, presented by
AviationSpeakers.com, begins at 7:30 and features Bill Lishman, the man
behind the movie, Fly Away Home; Frank D. Boring, producer of the
PBS film Fei Hu, The Story of the Flying Tigers; and Astronaut
Dr. Jay Apt. Danny Mortensen, president of Bill Phelps’ Airline Ground
Schools, author, and Reno Gold Trophy winner, will again serve as Master

B-1 to Arrive Monday
You’ll want to be near the flight line around 2:30 Monday afternoon as
the United States Air Force B-1 bomber is scheduled to arrive at EAA
AirVenture Oshkosh. The airplane will make some passes before landing to
kick off the day’s showcase flights. Pilot Capt. Kyle Wilson, a
Wisconsin native, will fly the powerful jet from Ellsworth AFB, South

Lockheed Super
Constellation ‘Star of America’ returns to Oshkosh
What some believe to be
the most beautiful airplane ever built returns to EAA AirVenture this
year for the first time since 2004. The Airline History Museum’s
"Star of America" Lockheed Super Constellation will be parked
throughout the week on AeroShell Square. Interior tours of the airplane
will be available during the week, hosted by its crew from the Airline
History Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. Proceeds from that tour help
finance the continued maintenance and operation of the aircraft. Read

providing daily, in-depth presentations featuring some of the world’s
most significant military aircraft and the people who flew them. (Or in

Warbirds Area to
Feature New ‘WWII Training Command’ Display
The incredible airplanes
that EAA Warbirds of America members bring to EAA AirVenture each year
create one of the most popular areas of the convention. For 2006,
warbird lovers can look forward to another great display area, "The
World War II Training Command," highlighting aircraft that helped
prepare American aviation cadets from 1941-1945 (and beyond). Plans are
to display primary, basic, and advanced training aircraft used by the
U.S. Navy and Army Air Forces. Read

Experience Air Crew
Briefings at World War II Training Command Area
The Air Crew Briefing was a critical part of every flight during World
War II, just as it is today. Prior to any mission, be it training,
search and rescue, or going into battle, the air crew would get a
briefing to cover facts about the mission, weather, launch, recovery,
and any other pertinent details. At EAA AirVenture’s new World War II
Training Command display, you can take part in a simulated air crew
briefing based on the EAA Warbirds of America air show on the days that

Kids restore Aeronca,
plan trip to AirVenture
Over the past five
years, about 20 Young Eagles at Flabob Airport in Southern California
worked to completely restore a worn and weathered Aeronca Super Chief.
Their goal: to bring it to EAA AirVenture. That dream becomes reality as
the group flies the aircraft to Wittman Regional Airport to take part in
the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. Read

quiet, Friday afternoon, in the first half-dozen rows of the North 40
airplane camping area. The first few rows are filled in, and the choice

See rare Lockheed
Electra Junior at AeroShell Square
A rare Lockheed 12A
Electra Junior, one of what is believed to be less than 10 flying
throughout the world, will be on display for the first time ever this
year at AeroShell Square. The sleek, twin-engine aircraft, N-18137,
serial number 1229, rolled off the assembly line at Lockheed’s
Burbank, California, plant in 1937 and was delivered to Continental
Airlines. Three years later it was sold to Transcontinental and Western
Air (later Trans World Airlines, or TWA). Paul E. Richter, Jr., one of
TWA’s three founding fathers and executive vice president, did the
initial test flight before purchase and then flew it to TWA headquarters
in Kansas City. Read more

Canadian EAAers will have
a lot to be proud of at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006. The dream of seeing
the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s magnificent Lancaster bomber
aircraft in flight over EAA AirVenture Oshkosh was born in the hearts
and minds of EAA Chapter 1410, High River, Alberta, Canada. The chapter
members underwrote the cost of this historic visit, which begins
Wednesday when the airplane arrives at Wittman Regional Airport. Read

USAF ‘Total Force
Pavilion’ Returns to EAA AirVenture
The popular United States
Air Force Total Force Pavilion will make its third consecutive
appearance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2006. Airmen from the Air
National Guard, Air Force Reserve and Air Force active duty will staff
the exhibit throughout the seven-day event, July 24-30. Visitors can see
various aircraft and real-world equipment on display, plus meet and
greet the three Air Force air show pilots slated to appear. Read

Canon offers free camera
loans
Dawn Patrol
returns Thursday-Saturday
Canon USA will again have
digital cameras available to lend to EAA AirVenture visitors Tuesday,
July 25, through Sunday, July 30. Those wishing to borrow a camera
(Canon Digital Rebel XTs) will need a driver’s license and credit card
(but there is no charge). When you’re done shooting, Canon will
provide you with a CD at no charge with all the photos you took that
day. Cameras are available on a first come, first served basis. Read

The Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club, Inc.
(club call sign: W9ZL) will host a "Special Event Station" on
the grounds of AirVenture at the historic Pioneer Airport Vette Hanger.
The volunteer communications operators will provide grounds information
on 146.520 (simplex) and the wide area 146.760- pl 100hz repeater. Read
