See outdoor movies at night on a 5-story-high screen

Remember the days of the old 44 Outdoor Theater, right outside Wittman Field? Those days live again this year and right in Camp Scholler as Ford Motor Company and Eclipse Aviation present the EAA Fly-In Theater. Classic aviation movies will be projected onto a 5-story high inflatable screen tonight through Saturday evening during EAA AirVenture. Programs begin at 8:30 and the movies start at 9:00.

How cool is that?

What’s more, each movie will be introduced by a notable aviation figure, starting tonight with EAA President Tom Poberezny introducing Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.

The theater is located at the north end of Doolittle Drive behind the Camp Store, so bring your blanket or lawn chair, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Here’s the schedule for the week:

Sunday: Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, (1965), starring Stuart Whitman and presented by EAA President Tom Poberezny.

Monday: The Blue Max (1966), starring George Peppard and introduced by Kermit Weeks, EAA board member and owner of Fantasy of Flight museum, Polk City, Florida. Kermit’s collection includes some of the World War I aircraft types featured in the film.

Tuesday: The High and the Mighty (1954), starring John Wayne and Robert Stack. Introduced by Eclipse Chairman Vern Raburn, a fan of classic airliners whose company co-sponsors the theater.

Wednesday: Air Force One (1997), starring actor, pilot, and EAA Young Eagles Chairman Harrison Ford. Harrison will introduce the film.

Thursday: The Great Waldo Pepper (1975), starring Robert Redford and introduced by Tom Benenson, senior editor of Flying Magazine.

Friday: 633 Squadron (1964), starring Cliff Robertson, a longtime EAA member, academy award-winner actor, and newly enshrined member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He will be on hand to introduce the film.

Saturday: Battle of Britain (1969), with an all-star cast including Harry Andrews, Michael Caine, Sir Laurence Olivier, Christopher Plummer, and Robert Shaw. Cliff Robertson will also introduce this film.
