EAA president welcomes you to AirVenture

On behalf of EAAers worldwide, welcome to the 54th annual fly-in convention of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Known around the globe as the world’s greatest celebration of aviation, in almost every language EAA AirVenture is referred to by its hometown—Oshkosh.

Each year hundreds of thousands of people come to Oshkosh. Their reasons are as varied as their numbers. For many, it’s your first visit, and for many more it’s an annual pilgrimage you’ve been making for decades. What you share is a thirst for information, knowing that whatever your aviation interest, you’ll find what you’re looking for here at EAA AirVenture.

Since 1953 EAA has been the go-to organization because it’s dedicated to helping make flight affordable. For more than half a century, investing time and effort to build an airplane has been the path an ever-growing number of you have taken toward becoming aircraft owners.

In this century, the sport pilot certificate and light-sport aircraft provide the best balance of time and money to partake in recreational aviation. EAA dedicated more than a decade to its gestation, and in the two years since its birth, EAA has helped build this community—and the future of aviation with new generations of pilots.

At the EAA LSA Mall adjacent to AeroShell Square you can inspect firsthand the more than two dozen new light-sport aircraft you can buy and fly today. EAA experts will answer your questions about becoming a sport pilot if you’re new to aviation or about flying as a sport pilot if you’re already a pilot.

Sport pilot encircles aviation as a first step and an ultimate destination. It can lead to all of the aviation activities on display at EAA AirVenture, from building or restoring your own plane to preserving and living history with a vintage airplane or warbird to satisfying your aerobatic urges. EAA can help you with all of them—not just this week, but all year long because AirVenture merely concentrates what the organization and its members do for each of the other 51 weeks of the year.

As you enjoy the aircraft and activities here in Oshkosh, look beyond this week and see how you can realize your recreational aviation dreams. Like sport pilot, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is a starting point and an ultimate destination. The people and organization that make it happen can also make it happen in your hometown. To learn how, visit the EAA Member Village as you pursue your aviation interest at the world’s greatest aviation celebration, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
