Flying Dreams
for sale at Applebee’s
Last year, they visited EAA AirVenture Oshkosh as one of their stops on
their around-the-world trip.
And this year two of them—Kevin
Bushnell and Peter Moore—are back, this time via commercial airlines,
to say they made it.
Last year five Australian
friends flew their Beechcraft B200 across the South Pacific via Easter
Island, and from the South American mainland they made their way north,
arriving in Florida just in time to catch the Return of Flight for the
shuttle Discovery. Throughout their five and a half week trip, they made
30 stops in 20 countries.
They also made a two-hour
DVD of their journey titled Flying Dreams. It is for sale in
Oshkosh at Appleebee’s for $50 with half of the cost donated to
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Diners can also watch the DVD while
they eat in the outdoor dining area.
Bushnell and Moore said the DVD includes
footage of AirVenture 2005, circling Niagara Falls, flying over the
Swiss Alps, landing on a tiny pacific atoll and Easter Island, and much
more.
HED: ‘D-day’ Piper pilot
presents forum today
Maurice Kirk has been attempting to fly a WWII vintage Piper Cub around
the world since 2001. He’ll report on the progress—and stumbling
blocks—of that trip in a forum session, "New Zealand to Japan in
a WWII D-day Piper Cub," at 5:30 today in the Jet Aviation Pavilion
#8.
A British veterinarian, Kirk’s
journey is something most of us only dream about. It started in 2001 as
he flew his 1944 D-day Gen. Patton Piper Cub in the legendary London to
Sydney Air Race.
Since then he’s struggled
to continue around the world. He’s been blocked by the Russian
government, and later the Japanese government. In attempting to fly from
Japan to an American military base in Korea, he experienced an engine
failure and a forced landing on a city street. Both he and the aircraft
were severely damaged in the crash. He’s recovered, but the aircraft
is currently stuck in Japan, and he’s now fighting to get it released
and into the United States for repair.

Frasca brings full-featured Cirrus
SR22 flight training device to AirVenture
Frasca International is demonstrating an Avidyne Entegra-equipped flight
training device (FTD) for the Cirrus SR22 at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh this
week. Frasca’s SR22 FTD features two 10.4-inch diagonal,
high-resolution displays plus an FAA-approved flight data package and
Jeppesen NavData. Also included are backup instruments and a CAPS
parachute recovery simulation for added realism.
"Avidyne has played
an important role in helping to make the Cirrus SR22 FTD a highly
realistic training environment," said John Frasca, vice president
of Frasca International.
"Given the
popularity of Entegra and the Cirrus SR22, flight schools will
appreciate being able to offer a high-fidelity training
environment."

Hangar C or its website at www.Frasca.com.
CamGuard receives FAA approval
ASL this week announced its CamGuard oil supplement is now FAA-approved.
The company says its CamGuard additive addresses the complex and
interrelated problems of corrosion, wear, deposits and seal degradation
in aircraft piston engines.
CamGuard has been on the
market for a short while, but marketed only to Experimental aircraft
operators. Now that the company has obtained FAA approval, it’s
available for use in most general aviation piston engines.
The company’s latest research data on
aircraft engine wear is available online at www.ASLCamGuard.com.
The company’s staff will be available at AirVenture, in Hangar C,
booths 3090 and 3091, to answer any questions you may have.
