Aviation premiere
audience likes Flyboys
About 1,000 people saw
the world aviation premiere of the movie Flyboys at the Eagle
Hangar Wednesday night, and if initial reaction to the film is any
indication, the producers could have a success on their hands.
The film tells the story
of the legendary Lafayette Escadrille where a handful of young Americans
volunteered to join the French forces in World War I before the U.S.
entered that war.
"The mainstream
audience will love the movie, but the aviation audience will think it’s
phenomenal," predicts David Hipschman, editor of EAA’s Sport
Aviation magazine. "The flying photography was the best I have
ever seen."
None other than Bob
Hoover was in attendance and told the audience it was "the best
aviation movie he’d ever seen."
An examination of the
many links between EAA and Flyboys will appear in the September
issue of Sport Aviation, including member Robert Baslee, who was
tasked to build four of the movie’s airplanes in 52 days.
A Flyboys exhibit is located near the
intersection of Knapp and Waukau streets at AirVenture.
