E85 Flex Fuel Vehicles available under Ford partner recognition plan

Through the EAA Partner Recognition Program with the Ford Motor Company, EAAers not only save money on Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles, they can also save money on gas!

Ford Motor Company has been a major influence in the advanced technology and alternative fuel vehicle fields and has introduced several Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) that use E85.

These include the Ford Ranger, Explorer, and Explorer SportTrac. In 2006, Ford adds five new vehicles to this list: Ford Taurus, Crown Victoria, F-Series (under 8500 GVW), Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car.

E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is produced mainly from corn, but can be made from virtually any starch feed stock, such as sugar cane, wheat, or barley. Because it is produced from crops, it is a renewable fuel and reduces the United States’ dependence on imported oil.

Ford FFV automatically adjust to any ethanol/gasoline mixture for hassle-free and environmentally sound driving. Onboard sensors monitor the fuel mixture and the on-board computer adjusts spark timing and fuel flow to optimize performance. In 2006, Ford plans to produce as many as 250,000 FFV.
