Recommended Waypoints

Did you make a fuel, food, or other stop on your way to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh last year and find an airport, FBO or community that you wish you could bottle and take with you wherever you fly? If you've had such an experience that really stands out, we'd like to hear about it and tell other pilots where the red carpet is rolled out for aircraft heading to Oshkosh. Just drop us an e-mail at webmaster@eaa.org

Also check out Alternate Airports and Stops

Good stop. New user friendly self serve fuel system. New paved runway and 1400' grass strip. Pilots lounge and courtesy van. This is a good spot to stop. Home of Bueno Aviation, and RANS builder assistance program. Townsend (8U8), Montana. 406.266.5400. Always friendly in Montana. - N. Salmi

Jerome ID. Great fuel price. Airport car for 5.00 and .30 a mile. - R. DeBauw

Worthington MN. Nice FBO (great air conditioning), self serv. fuel. - R. DeBauw

Mott, ND Muni 3P3 - About 90 mi. East of Miles City, MT and 100 mi NW of Minneapolis. Small airport, agricultural operations on field, must call ahead for fuel. 100LL (701) 824-2030 or 2672 or 2552 or 2991. Good prices, very nice people. Other than bathroom in the hanger there is not much in the way of other services. - T. Donnelly

Buzz Aviation located at KGRD is a full service FBO that has a really cool setup. Jerry Billen is the owner and takes great pride in his operation. Unicom is 122.8. (Phone is 864 942-9634) He has a room that you can take a nap in, two bunk beds and a nice recliner. Across from this room is the media center with VCR and DVD players with movies and TV, and a room for checking weather and for filing flight plans. He also has a conference room for ground instruction. Located 3-4 miles from town, a crew car available for your use. This is one of the nicest FBO's that we have had the pleasure to visit. First class operation, and first class facility. - D. Cook

The Bloomington airport (BMG) is a great place to stop on the way to OSH , We stopped in 2005 and found a great crew, clean facility and CHEAP gas.  - J. Gantt

Manistique, MI (KISO) - A weather stop on the way home. Motel across the highway from the airport. Ultra clean... magnificently friendly... and "Mom & Pop" went out of their way to help 8 of us get back and forth to the casino restaurant. Airport is basic yet provides EVERYTHING for flight planning plus a GREAT attitude. If you're going to find yourself storm-stayed, this is THE place to have it happen.  - H. Christensen, Ontario

LaGrange/Callaway Airport,  GA. (KLGC) - Great airport with courtesy van and usually the lowest rate in Ga. on self serve fuel. FBO first class! - Snjjose

The Wisconsin Aviation Academy (Janesville Jet Center) extends an open invitation to all Warbird Members to fly in before and/or after the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. We have great facilities, friendly people, good food in the area, a large ramp, and great landing facilities for your aircraft. Top notch fuel services at fair prices and always red carpet service. The invitation will remain open 24/7 365 a year for all warbird members. Your participation will also help provide funding for the Academy which is a 501(c)(3) aviation educational program that teaches underrepresented youth, minorities and young girls to fly for free. - P. Owens

Flying to AirVenture last year from Gaithersburg, MD - received excellent service at Mercury Air Center at Ft. Wayne, IN (KFWA). Gave us a nice late model car to take into town for lunch, line people were friendly, fair price for 100LL, very comfortable pilot lounge with computer, maps, etc. - M. Saini
